Norman, Oklahoma (MMD Newswire) March 24, 2010 -- WDT has launched iMapRadar, an innovative iPhone application that displays up-to-date radar and satellite images on an interactive Google map. iMapRadar detects your location and uses an advanced algorithm technology for data processing to display the best quality radar and infrared satellite data available in the United States and on the iTunes market.

"Weather is the #1 search topic on the mobile web, and radar and satellite are the two most popular weather applications in the mobile weather category," said JT Johnson, Chief Technology Officer, Weather Decision Technologies. "With iMapRadar, we are bringing the most powerful, innovative, and accurate radar data available in the United States on the Apple iTunes platform, transforming any iPhone into a reliable meteorological source," said Johnson.

The WDT application is being showcased at the Cellular Telecommunications Industry (CTIA) trade show, taking place in Las Vegas March 23-25, 2010. iMapRadar is available on the iTunes store at the following address: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/imapradar/id360292164?mt=8

iMapRadar automatically detects users' current location with a blue pin. Browsers can also simply type in the name of a location of interest and the application drops a pin on the map, marking that location and providing current weather conditions, temperatures, forecasts, highs and lows. Clicking on the "right arrow" on the application offers more details on current conditions, in easy-read text "balloons" as well as a full seven day forecast.

Using the "pinch zoom" method to zoom in and out of the map, users can access detailed radar or satellite information, all the way down to street level. The radar animates on demand, creating a continuous loop, allowing users to better predict storm paths. The radar data is updated every 5 minutes, and the satellite data every 15 minutes. Setting the transparency level of the radar over the map shows the preferred amount of map detail beneath the radar.

iMapRadar users can choose either a map background with the classic look of an Atlas, or use the satellite view to get the perspective of aerial photography.
